Swans are tough.

So I realize that I've been quite neglectful. I apologize dearly, but now I am home and don't have classes to focus on and can give you my full attention. Kind of. Well, last night I was feeling a little down and really wanted to make something. I ended up making some yummy cream puffs. I was a little worried at first when I saw the recipe because I didn't expect the cream puffs to be made that way, but I went for it and it actually worked. Baking them kind of worried me as well because I baked them for the first 20 minutes as I was supposed to and I initially thought that you are supposed to take them out after those 20 minutes and so I checked them and they didn't seem finished and then I went back to the recipe and reread it and noticed that I'm supposed to lower the temperature and bake the puffs for another 20 minutes which eased my worries.

Oopsie daisy....

I understand that I have been neglecting the blog lately. And going back on my promise that I made a month ago where I would blog daily. I have good reason for it! Really!

Supermarkets!!!!

So here's a short post about shopping and how to buy ingredients. I've been really tired lately and haven't been getting much sleep so I need to take a break now. Especially with finals coming up. Hopefully when I get a little more sleep my posting will be back in action. For now please bear with me. :)

Coming soon to a supermarket near you: THE DIRTY DOZEN

The Dirty Dozen is an American war film from 1967 directed by Robert Aldrich that takes place in England during the spring of 1944, when the Allied Forces are preparing for the D-Day invasion.
Fast forward 43 years, and you'll find a remake of 1967's #1 film moneymaker.

Will it grow a tail?

Yes, well. That's a good question. *WILL* it grow a tail? It may or may not. It's kind of unsure and not known. What is known is that it is sweet and delicious.

Red Mango part 2!

Red Mango is constantly updating their flavors and what they offer. Joanne and I like to traditionally go with froyo, but we like to change up our toppings a bit. We both have out own preferences for what toppings to use but it's good to be a bit adventurous.

Quick, Easy, Classic Dessert with a Twist

It's a dessert. It can be a midnight snack. It can be an afternoon snack. It can even be breakfast. It actually can be used for any meal that you'd like to use it for. What is it, you ask?

Choosing what to make/decorate

How's that for rhyming? Well, I didn't mean to make it rhyme, but it did anyway. Oh well. So I am a really funny story. And this post will be in a way kind of short. And picture-less.

I'm an (unofficial) aunt

Yes, that is an interesting title. I know. Let's explain how it's unofficial. My boyfriend's brother's wife (yeah I could have gone the easy way out and said sister in-law but this was more fun) just had a baby this morning. Considering I have been dating my boyfriend for 4 years now, and his family treats me like I'm part of their family, I feel like an unofficial aunt considering I am not part of the family by blood or law relation. Anyway, this post is in dedication to the newborn and his parents. May their family be super happy, and enjoy this recipe! :)

Peeling Apples without a peeler is not easy

Yes, today's blog post has to do with peeling apples. So if you wish to do this recipe, you can without a peeler, but it will make your life soooooooo much easier with one. Trust me. I've done it without, and it's not fun.

Hooray for accomplishments!

So today I made my first impressive accomplishment. It had something to do with today's dessert item. Wait until you see.

What to Do with all those leftovers

You have a ton of leftovers in your fridge. I know you do. From unused egg whites to yolks to cream cheese to strawberries. You can take all of those leftovers and use them for a yummy snack. Or if you are making something (like the lava cakes, see post here) where you will have leftover egg whites, or egg yolks (depending on what you make, egg yolks will be leftover from something like an angel food cake), then don't throw them out, that's such a waste. Use them later. Store them in a cup or some other storing item, cover it and place it in the fridge. I recommend not leaving the stuff there for too long, it might go bad, but if you leave it there for a day or two and then use it to make the next yummy treat, it will be completely fine to use.

101 uses for chocolate.

Ok, so I lied. This post will not have 101 uses for chocolate. But one day, maybe, if I build up my blog post library enough, I will have 101 uses listed, or even more. This is only one use for chocolate for now, but it is delicious and a must have for anyone and everyone who loves to bake. I say this is a slightly more advanced recipe because of how delicate the baking process is, but if you are a beginner and you follow instructions well, then you won't have a problem with it.

Quick and Short Update

Note: Joanne and I are still alive. We have not yet exploded from all the yummy desserts that we've been eating. Well on to more important matters:

School has been swamping us like crazy. I have finals coming up and Joanne does as well the week after me. We therefore have not been able to post recently. I have a bunch of posts lined up and ready to be written up but because I've been so busy, I just couldn't write them up, but when finals are over I will have a whole week to myself where I will just sit and write. I just wanted to inform you that we will be writing again soon but right now there is so much going on that it has become slightly difficult.

Dessert for dinner... fancy dessert

So, for a week, my boyfriend came to visit me in good ol' Boston. Unfortunately, it is really tough to make him happy; this trip definitely did not satisfy him in any way. (I just really wanted to use a semi-colon in a sentence so I did.) Anyway, I took him with me and your other favorite writer, 4T4F, to a highly recommended place called Finale. This is our trip there are what we ordered and how we enjoyed it and other crazy things along the way.

Baking at home with my mommy

I love to bake, but when I go home to the Czech Republic, my grandmother usually already has stuff that has already been baked and therefore does not need me to make any more because then there is too much. This time was a little different and so my mom and I offered to make something called buchty.

Airplane food sucks.... thats what you think. Part 2.

In the last post I wrote about the airplane food on my travels to Europe. But I eventually had to return and therefore would be eating food on my way back as well. So, here is my experience coming back. And my final rating of British Airways' food.

Airplane food sucks.... or so you think. Part 1.

People complain about lots of things, especially when it comes to food. They complain about dorm food, which I can understand since it isn't all that good to begin with and when you pretty much have the same offers everyday it gets boring and gross. They also complain about airplane food. Partially I think it is because it is prepackaged and then just heated right before being served, and people just have a problem with it not being freshly made. Well, if you are going to complain about having it prepackaged like that, then just go for the one of the specialized meals such as the vegan choice, since those are freshly made specially for the customers who reserve it ahead of time. (Of course this is why you have to reserve it with your seat reservation on the plane.)

On Driving, Diastereomers, and Delectables of Dubious Deliciousness…

How about that alienation (alliteration?!) ?!

Greetings, Earthlings!

Ivana is currently being held hostage aboard our glorious vesicle of movement. (Yes, we really do mean vesicle). In order to ensure her safe return to your oxygen-laden atmospheres, kindly tell all of your friends to read this blog and leave tons of comments. We do not deem these demands to be unreasonable. If you fail to comply, we will be forced to terminate. What we will be terminating is still to be determined, but rest assured that it will be of tremendous consequence. That is all.

Quick News Update

I have to go out of town for a couple of days and will not really have internet access. I will, however, have my computer with me and will be able to write a few things while I am away. I will talk about some stuff I ate while I was gone. Also, I am expecting fourthoughtsforfood to make me proud and finally write her opinions on Pastry shop hopping, froyo, and Sweet. I will remind her to do so, and hopefully she will be able to make up for the week that I will not be here. I'll miss posting, but I promise I will be back soon!

Keep eating sweetly! :)

A Sweet Visit

I pass by it every single time I want to go to Newbury, or Best buy, or the Pru, but I never really went inside. Sweet is a cupcake shop on Massachusetts Ave. (and in Harvard Square) and I finally had a chance for a visit with fourthoughtsforfood. We went and bought 4 cupcakes, brought them back to my dorm, took pictures and and ate them while analyzing the taste.

Froyo after pastry hopping

Now I would have discussed the froyo part in the last post since it all happened in the same day, it is just that froyo and pastries somehow don't fit together too well, also the last post was getting long.

Pastry Hopping with fourthoughtsforfood.....

Living in Boston is quite nice. You can get everywhere with public transportation. When I say everywhere I mean pretty much everywhere in the city. I don't go around the city much by myself, as that is quite a bore. Joanne (fourthoughtsforfood) keeps me company when I get bored (o.k. so that happens to be all the time pretty much, don't judge). "Skyping" can be fun since Joanne is across the river and going across there everyday would be a hassle and I would get even less work done than I do now, and so would Joanne.

A Tall Order of Valentine's Day Cannolo.

I don’t usually eat cannoli. I have come across some bad cannoli and some good ones. (By the way cannoli is the plural form and cannolo is the singular, thank you 1-year of Italian.)

FREE BROWNIE!!!!!

... and milk!

“It ate the food it ne’er had eat, And round and round it flew. The ice did split with a thunder-fit; The helmsman steered us through!”

It was a thoroughly soggy day in the Home of the Green Monster today…

Woman says her love handles saved her life.

… or how I got you to read this blog post. :)

The coming and going of Pre-Valentine's Day Dinner

Valentine's Day is a day to celebrate the ones you love, and what better way than to go to dinner with one's parents and boyfriend. It was dinner in Haven. Read more to learn about what kinds of desserts I ate there.

How things are going to run.

Desserts are an adventure. I want to take you along with me on those adventures. First let’s discuss for what adventures to be prepared.

In the beginning, there was food.

I like to eat, you like to eat. We all love to eat. We all also have quite the sweet tooth. Might as well enjoy life to the fullest and enjoy the sweet and guilty pleasures that come in the form of food.
